The sad announcement brought on a wave of nostalgia as I looked through my old pictures. I found buried deep in my computer this picture of FBA's 2006 E-board:

What are runway producers going to do without Polaroids to keep the model order straight? How is Jeremy Kost going to document late-night fashion soirées? So many unanswered questions! Thank goodness FBA stocked up with not one, but two Polaroid cameras and loads of film to document NYU fashion for years to come.Cara BZhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16919638338732275664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3768671293452991084.post-81522612592385429552008-07-01T11:37:00.000-04:002008-07-01T11:46:44.993-04:00Suri Style
Has little Suri's influence on fashion reached new heights?

Monsieur Lagerfeld sent every one of his girls out on the runway with a severe bob at the Chanel couture show in Paris this morning. I mean, why is Target the one store without a location on the island of Manhattan? Super cute accessories at extremely low prices; what could be better? Not to mention the huge success of the Go International line that launched a few years back. This holiday season alone I stocked up on lots of frilly Erin Fetherston dresses and scoured the discount racks to find Alice Temperly pieces for $5!

With the Go line on a hiatus for over a month now, I was eagerly awaiting the look book for the Jovovich-Hawk line. It's not everyday that a stylish girl on a college budget can buy brand name pieces without guilt. Which is why I was so disappointed to see the feel for the new line is more Oklahoma-farm-girl than Kate-Moss-hippie-chic. I thought "Bobo" (the bohemian bourgeois style every MKO clone was sporting two years ago) was dead! Seriously, unwashed hair and Grandma's moth-eaten clothes don't look good on anyone! I hope the first week of school has treated all of you well.

We are all looking forward to a great spring with many exciting speakers, showroom visits, social events, more great editions of our newsletter, and of course, the fashion show. (!!)

So what are your New Years Resolutions, fashion or otherwise? (Yes, I know I'm a little bit late, but hey, I still wish we were on break!) Some of mine are:

1. Eat better, sleep more (ha, like that will happen!), gain some weight (haha I must be the only one to want this!), and do some form of exercise regularly to be more healthy.
2. Control my closet and my spending... So i can stop hanging my closet overflow on my bedposts and different things around my room. (And also so I can stop being broke, lol)
3. Dress better - or at least put more effort into getting dressed more often. =) I am always too tempted to throw on whatever is around as fast as possible, especially in the mornings, which ends up being jeans, boots, a wifebeater (JCrew Favorite Tank, anyone?) and a sweater or blazer)and way too much of my clothing never sees sunlight!

What about you guys? =)Joycehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15458476483390190187noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3768671293452991084.post-37192882357800547042007-10-12T12:23:00.000-04:002007-10-12T12:24:41.742-04:00An Englishwoman’s Right to ShoesThere are two types of women in the world: shoe whores and bag hags. I, personally, am the latter. Always have been and always will be. New York style is all about the status handbag. On my weekend strolls down Fifth Avenue (OK, more like daily) I could name the brand, even the season of every bag that passed me. I came to regard myself as a bag connoisseur, and never did I feel more stylish than when I had a Chanel or Marc Jacobs draped over my arm (even if I was on my way back from the gym!). This is why the past two months in London have been such a struggle for me.

I was shocked upon my arrival at the lack of designer logos blinding my vision. British women seem to carry basic black totes or messenger bags to the office. Take a trip to Harrod’s and you may see an elderly woman with a tattered Louis. In my entire time here I have not spotted one MJ Stam or YSL muse. However, for what the British lack in arm candy, they more than make up for in the shoe department. Despite the crooked cobblestone sidewalks and long work commutes, the quintessential British woman is never seen in any less than four inch stilettos…which is why I have looked every bit the dowdy American since I landed at Gatwick Airport. Taking my parents advice for once, I’ve been alternating Converse and UGG’s on a daily basis; choosing comfort over class is not in my nature. So when the opportunity to blend in presented itself, I jumped at it.

I woke up to my first proper London rain last week, and I was so excited to prove my British style in Hunter rain boots. Unfortunately, I received a rude awakening when I walked out my front gate. I passed not a single person wearing rain boots in my mile-long walk to class! I could not have looked MORE American. Needless to say, the Hunters have been stored under my bed until my return to New York. I’m trying to adapt to English style for the time being. Although, seeing as how I brought only one pair of heels (that kill my feet, natch), I don’t think I’ll be wearing them to class anytime soon.Cara BZhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16919638338732275664noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3768671293452991084.post-41681118668938664152007-09-28T17:46:00.000-04:002007-09-28T18:11:09.697-04:00Surf in StyleWe all spend lots of time surfing the net in our attempts to relieve boredom (i.e. avoid school work!) No, I'm not talking about Big Ben or Westminster Abbey. I'm talking shopping. At Harrod's. Here's future journalist extraordinaire Kate's view on the world's best department store:

Harrod’s: the iconic home of London’s high fashion shops, dazzlingly beautiful and mind-bogglingly expensive jewelry, and ₤1.50 cheese and onion baguettes the size of my head (and if anything can eat my entire head in the minute amount of time that it took me to choke down that baguette, then God help me). Seeing Harrod’s in countless fashion mags and cheesy tourist photos couldn’t have possibly prepared me for the opulence we saw. While trying to navigate the arrows pointing us towards contemporary wear, we wandered through the couture collections. Just so you know, when oogling couture Dior and YSL in Harrod’s it’s impossible to keep your jaw from hanging open in a ridiculously cartoonish fashion, so don’t even try to restrain yourself – the designers might even take it as a compliment.
There’s just something about Harrod’s (in a completely non-Farrelly brothers kind of way), that makes you feel like Miss High Society London. It doesn’t matter if you can afford to buy anything, and since I can barely manage my cheese and onion baguette, I clearly cannot. Just being around so many amazing coats and shoes and bags and basically everything imaginable gives you a few Cinderella hours where you can be that girl who tosses her credit card around with incredible ease – looking in the mirror with a gorgeous Marc Jacobs coat on, I am SO that girl. And let’s face it; where else is a girl who can only afford Harrod’s baguettes going to be able to freely try on Chanel without getting tasered?

By Kate ThumaCara BZhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16919638338732275664noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3768671293452991084.post-6072526016446399172007-09-22T14:52:00.000-04:002007-09-22T15:05:40.018-04:00Greetings from the UK!Hello FBA!
